The Secretary for Development, Mrs Carrie Lam, this morning (February 20) inspected a passing-out parade of 17 Station Officers, 55 Firemen and 45 Ambulancemen at the Fire Services Training School as the reviewing officer.
In her speech, Mrs Lam said that the Fire Services Department (FSD) in recent years had recruited people who were committed to serving the community and trained them to become fire and ambulance personnel to meet the growing demands of the public.
She said that the FSD had recruited more than 400 people for various uniformed grades in the year 2008-09 and this year would recruit more people to cope with the departmentˇ¦s development.
Mrs Lam also praised the FSD for fulfilling its commitment in providing quality services to the public, and fire and ambulance personnel for working hard to save lives.
The parade was followed by a demonstration of fire-fighting and rescue by the graduates.
The graduates have successfully completed 26 weeks of stringent training and will be posted to various fire stations and ambulance depots to continue their on-the-job training to gain field experience.
