The Hong Kong YWCA Chinese Orchestra will collaborate with the Bear Children's Choir for a re-run of the highly acclaimed "The Animal World" concerts.
Under the baton of Chan Chiu-yin and Alfred Wong, the orchestra will perform works which are all related to animals, including "Dance of the Golden Snake", "The Dragon Boat Race", "The Charge of the Battle Horses", "The Bull-slaughtering Sacrificial Ritual", "Keroro Gunso", "Doraemon" and "Totoro". The choir will also participate in a musical "The Mice and the Tabby Cat - The Little Animal World".
The concerts will be held at 3pm on Sunday, March 15, at the Auditorium, Tsuen Wan Town Hall; 3pm on Sunday, March 22, at the Auditorium, Tai Po Civic Centre; and 8pm on Saturday, March 28, at the Theatre, Sheung Wan Civic Centre.
Founded in 1962, the Hong Kong YWCA Chinese Orchestra is one of the oldest Chinese orchestras in Hong Kong. The orchestra has organised regular performances to introduce different styles of Chinese folk music to the public and to provide training and performing opportunities to local young musicians, many of whom have won prizes at various music competitions. In recent years, the orchestra has collaborated with an array of music virtuosos and the performances have received great acclaim from audiences and critics alike.
Founded in 1997, The Bear Children's Choir has participated in many major performances, including the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra's musical for children, "A Precious Little Baby", "Cook Up Some Music" and "The Magic of Chinese Music". It has also performed at the presentation ceremony of the 21st Hong Kong Film Awards. Moreover, the choir has frequently been a winner in the HKTVB Ten Best Children's Song Awards. It also makes records of children's songs, stories and recitations regularly.
The choir adopts a creative, improvisatory and interactive approach in the teaching and learning process which integrates music, dance and drama. The young members are required to receive training in vocal music, dance, storytelling, professional recording and videotaping, stage performances, making children's MTV and webcast programmes. The members are encouraged to explore their interests and participate in a variety of performances and voluntary work in order to apply what they have learned, and improve through practice.
"The Animal World II" is one of the entertaining programmes in the "Family Fiesta" series presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department. Tickets priced at $80 are now available at URBTIX outlets. Senior citizens aged 60 or above, people with disabilities, full-time students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) recipients may have 50% off (limited quotas for CSSA recipients on a first-come, first-served basis). A maximum discount of 20% is offered for group booking and "Family Fiesta Series" schemes.
