The following is issued on behalf of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority:
The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (February 16) pursued 12 claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $230,000 on behalf of 32 employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.
At the tribunal's hearing today, five defendants, namely Chong Pak Fung and Cheung Yau Tak trading as Techson Printing Company, Yeung Wing Ming trading as Dr Wing-Ming Howard Yeung, Chan Sze Man Clement formerly trading as Freesia Floral Design, To Man Fai trading as Blue Bay Swimming Pool Company and Laser Beam Limited, did not dispute the amounts claimed. The adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA the sums of $32,850, $32,165.18, $14,170.61, $8,781.32 and $2,230.44, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.
The other seven defendants, namely Kason (Hong Kong) Limited, Hillway Investment Limited trading as Roppongi Japanese Restaurant, Web-on (Asia) Limited, Talisgold International Limited, Honor Worldwide Limited, Mo Chung Ming formerly trading as Small Potato and Hui Shing To trading as Tin Shing Wan Kau Fruit Shop, did not appear at today's hearing. In their absence, the adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA the sums of $42,737.53, $30,771.27, $30,728.94, $21,914.25, $12,094.17, $1,698.62 and $850, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.
The amounts awarded will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The tribunal ordered the respective defendants to pay $210, $200, $79, $160, $156, $176, $111, $110, $110, $96, $109 and $135 as the costs in respect of the claims.
