The Permanent Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development (Communications and Technology), Mr Duncan Pescod, will lead a delegation to Beijing and Shanghai tomorrow (February 15) for a four-day visit to learn more about the latest developments on the Mainland in broadcasting, telecommunications, creative industries, information and communications technology as well as innovation and technology.
In Beijing, the delegation will make courtesy calls on the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the State Administration of Radio Film and Television, the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council. In addition, the delegation will visit the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the IBM China Research Laboratory.
The delegation will pay visits to the Beijing Cultural and Creative Industry Promotion Centre and the Beijing 798 Arts Zone to understand their work in promoting creative industries.
After Beijing, the delegation will head to Shanghai on February 18 for a two-day visit. The delegation will meet officials of the Shanghai World Expo Co-ordination Bureau for an update on the World Exposition 2010 Shanghai and will visit the Expo exhibition facilities.
The delegation will make a special tour to the site of the Urban Best Practices Area (UBPA) where Hong Kong will participate in the exhibition in 2010 to showcase our quality city life and our position as a creative capital. Afterwards, the delegation will also visit a number of creative industry parks including Hong Fang, Tian Zhi Fang and M50.
Officials from the Office of the Government Chief Information Officer, Office of the Telecommunications Authority and the Innovation and Technology Commission will join different parts of the visit.
The delegation will return to Hong Kong on Thursday (February 19).
