Extra concerts for "Nan Lian Garden Chinese Music Series"
*********************************************************

The Leisure and Cultural Services Department announces that in response to the overwhelming popular demand for concerts in the "Nan Lian Garden Chinese Music Series", additional concerts for "Green is the Willow - Guqin Recital by Jin Wei", "Nanyin Concert" and "Chinese Music Virtuosi - By the Nan Lian Garden" will be held.

Guqin player Jin Wei will show his talent in "Green is the Willow - Guqin Recital by Jin Wei". Jin is a calligrapher, painter and guqin artist who gave his first guqin solo recital at Peking University in 2003 and published his treatise on guqin, "The Way of Qin", in 2004. It is a publication in traditional Chinese characters and the first treatise on guqin in traditional Chinese bookbinding format in China since 1949. The concert features an array of ancient tunes, including "The Courtship", "An Emotive Outpouring in Guangling" and "Liquormania".

Renowned Chinese music scholar Dr Tong Kin-woon will perform "Nanyin Concert" featuring Dr Lo Wai-kwok (xiao), Lam Chi-wang (pipa) and To Wing (yehu). Dr Tong specialises in guqin, nanyin (Southern tunes) and Cantonese music. He is well known for accompanying himself on the zheng when he sings the nanyin songs, beating time with his left hand and playing the instrument with his right.

"Chinese Music Virtuosi - By the Nan Lian Garden" will present Chinese instrumental music by the members of the Chinese Music Virtuosi, Loo Sze-wang (sheng), Chu Siu-wai (dizi), Pan Ya-sze (yangqin) and Wong Chi-chung (huqin), featuring guest performers Chan Shuk-har (ruan), Chiu Tan-ching (guzheng) and Tsang Chi-wai (zhonghu). The programme of the additional concert will include "Song of Joy Jiangnan Sizhu", "Thunder in the Drought", "Red Candle Tears" and "By the Nan Lian Garden" produced by Professor Chan Wing-wah.
