Exhibition shows local life in photos (with photos)
***************************************************

The works of 20 photography lovers, who use the camera to express their views of and feelings about Hong Kong, will be on display at Yuen Long Theatre from today (February 6) until February 19.

¡§Dong Jia II ¢w Photo Exhibition by Lumenvisum¡¨shows a selection of photographic works of a one-year project, ¡§Dong Jia II¡¨. Capturing daily life in Hong Kong, the photographs, which at first glance look quite ordinary, are filled with humour, irony and afterglow. A selection of the exhibits will also be on display at Kai Tin Shopping Centre (near Ping Tin Bus Terminus), Lam Tin, from February 21 to March 8.

In the digital era, digital cameras and mobile phones fitted with a camera are affordable gadgets for everyone. Pictures are uploaded to forums and albums on the Web for sharing with others. However, how many people think about the message that the picture will deliver before pressing the shutter? And how many viewers understand the meaning behind a picture?

Conducted as a monthly workshop, ¡§Dong Jia II¡¨, an exploratory photographic project organised by Lumenvisum, provided participants with guidance so that they could learn to express their views and feelings through the camera. Works were shared and ideas discussed and exchanged to help participants improve their presentation skills and enrich the theme of their work.

Coming from all walks of life, the participants took their daily experiences as a starting point and responded to them with their camera. Although their common aim was a true record of reality with a distinctive theme, their approaches were divergent and bore personal styles.

Lumenvisum, established in 2007 by six veteran photographers -- Dick Chan, Raymond Chan, Leon Suen, Tse Ming-chong, Richard Law and Mak Siu-fung -- provides a platform for photographic education, exchange, promotion and resources to give the public more opportunity to participate in photographic activities and make pictorial images a medium to record and express their personal experiences, thinking and feelings.

¡§Dong Jia II ¢w Photo Exhibition by Lumenvisum¡¨ is the fifth exhibition organised under the Artists in the Neighbourhood Scheme IV (AIN IV) by the Art Promotion Office (APO) of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department. It is also a continuation of a photographic exhibition held last year which featured the 10th anniversary of Hong Kong¡¦s handover.

Free guided tours will be offered to the public and school groups. For bookings, contact the Community Art Team of the APO on 3101 2712 or 3101 2713.

To learn more about the participants of ¡§Dong Jia II¡¨ and their work, visit the AIN IV's website: www.artistneighbourhood.info.
