Appointments to Advisory Committee of Partnership Fund for the Disadvantaged

     The Government today (February 6) announced the appointment of three new members and the re-appointment of nine incumbent members to the Advisory Committee of the Partnership Fund for the Disadvantaged for a term of two years with effect from February 1.

     The three new members are Dr Samuel Yung Wing-ki, Ms Teresa Au Pui-yee and Dr Wong Chung-kwong.  

     Dr Samuel Yung Wing-ki is a Senior District Director of AIA Ltd. He is also an appointed District Council (Kwai Tsing) member and a member of the Commission on Strategic Development. He has rich experience in community services and is highly respected in the business field, particularly the insurance sector.
 
     Ms Teresa Au Pui-yee is the Head of the Corporate Sustainability (Asia Pacific Region) of the HSBC. She is also a member of the Advisory Council on the Environment and a member of the Hong Kong Committee for Pacific Economic Cooperation. She has more than 20 years of financial service industry experience in Hong Kong and the Asia-Pacific region.

     Dr Wong Chung-kwong is a child adolescent medical psychiatrist. He is also an adjunct professor in psychiatry of the Chinese University of Hong Kong and an honorary consultant of the United Christian Hospital. He is an incumbent member of the Family Council.

     Nine incumbent members - the Reverend Dorothy Lau Wai-ling, Mrs Julie Lee Lau Chu-lai, Mr Leung Wing-yu, Professor Mok Bong-ho, Mr Robert Tai Yiu-wah, Ms Theresa Tao Chee-ying, Dr Jimmy Wong Chi-ho, Mr Charles Yang Chuen-liang and Dr Yue Kwok-to - have been re-appointed.

     The Secretary for Labour and Welfare, Mr Matthew Cheung Kin-chung, looked forward to members' contribution to the development of the Fund and the promotion of tripartite partnerships in Hong Kong.  

     Mr Cheung also thanked three out-going members, Mr Yeung Po-kwan, Mr Ma Siu-leung and Ms Ellen Chan Kit-wing, for their contribution to the Fund over the years.

     The advisory committee, chaired by the Director of Social Welfare, is to examine applications for the fund and all matters relating to its operation.

     The $200 million fund was established in December 2004 to promote the development of tripartite partnerships among the Government, the business and the welfare sectors in helping the disadvantaged. Applications from non-governmental welfare organisations are invited.
