Employer ordered to pay MPF arrears

The following is issued on behalf of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority:

     The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (January 22) pursued one claim in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $6,800 on behalf of one employee, who was owed MPF contributions by the employer.

     At the tribunal's hearing today, the defendant, Professional Vehicle Company Limited, did not appear. In its absence, the adjudicator ordered it to pay the MPFA the sum of $6,877.5, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The amounts awarded will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The adjudicator further ordered the defendant to pay $80 as the costs in respect of the claim.
