************************************************************

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

In response to media enquiries about the arrest of several public hospital mortuary attendants by the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC), the spokesperson of the Hospital Authority (HA) gave the following reply:

The HA confirmed that five serving mortuary attendants and one former mortuary attendant working in Tuen Mun Hospital and Haven of Hope Hospital were being investigated by the ICAC in relation to a suspected bribery case.  The authority and the two concerned hospitals will fully co-operate with the commission in the investigation.

The HA would like to stress that the authority will not tolerate any serious misconduct or criminal offences committed by its staff members.  Any staff member who is convicted of such offences will be subject to disciplinary proceedings which may include termination of employment.
