Transcript of Chief Executive on appointment of new Exco Members (2)
*********************************************************

Reporter: Can you explain further Mr Lau Wong-fat's appointment? There's been a saying that the Executive Council has become more of an approval machine. Is Mr Lau's appointment actually related to that? Because he actually supports government policies.

Chief Executive: There are certain criteria for appointment to the Executive Council; most important thing is a person of ability, with a full commitment to Hong Kong, and someone who would support my manifesto, and what I have pledged to Hong Kong people that I would deliver during my term, when I delivered my Policy Address in 2007. Mr Lau is a very polished politician, who's been engaged in community affairs for several decades. He has also considerable experience in the Legislative Council. He is highly respected in the community, and I'm sure the various development plans that we have embarked upon will take place in the New Territories, and in this area we will certainly treasure the counsel and contribution of Mr Lau. Mr Lau can also criticise, and he has done it before, and I'm sure he will do so in future, if necessary and if appropriate. Thank you very much.
