Appointments to Quality Education Fund Steering Committee

     The Education Bureau today (January 15) announced the appointment of members to the Quality Education Fund Steering Committee (QEFSC).

     The following two members have been re-appointed to QEFSC:

* Professor Horace Ip Ho-shing, Chair Professor, Department of Computer Science, City University of Hong Kong
* Mr Antony Ip Sing-piu, Headmaster, Shak Chung Shan Memorial Catholic Primary School

     The following five new members have been appointed to QEFSC:

* Dr Lawrence Lam Chi-kit, Dental Surgeon
* Ms Gloria Leung Chi-kin, Head, Caritas Pre-School Education & Child Care Services
* Mr Ng Sui-kou, Principal, Ho Fung College (Sponsored by Sik Sik Yuen)
* Mr Frank Pak Fu-hung, Managing Director, Home of Swallows Ltd
* Ms Halina Poon Suk-han, Principal, Christian & Missionary Alliance Sun Kei Secondary School

     The appointments will take effect from tomorrow (January 16) for a term of two years.

     "I am confident that with these appointments, the Quality Education Fund (QEF) will continue with its excellent work in the promotion of quality school education in Hong Kong," the Secretary for Education, Mr Michael Suen, said.

     He also thanked five outgoing members of QEFSC - Mr Stephen Chan Chi-wan, Ms Maria Lee Lai-wan, Mr Justein Wong Chun, Mr Wong Kwan-yu, and Ms Lisa Yip Sau-wah, for their contributions.

     The QEF was established in early 1998 with a capital of $5 billion to fund community initiatives which promote quality education in Hong Kong.  QEFSC was set up to advise on policies and operation of QEF.  It also makes recommendations to the Fund's Trustee on the awards of grants.

     Since its establishment, the fund has supported 7,434 projects with a total grant of $3.62 billion.
