PWH Patient Complaint
*********************

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

In response to media enquiries, the spokesman of Prince of Wales Hospital gave the following reply:

The patient was admitted to the hospital on 24 October, 2007 for renal disease. According to our records, the patient had presented with symptoms of chest infection at the time of admission. The doctor in charge had prescribed appropriate treatment including antibiotics immediately. However, during the hospital stay, the patient had repeatedly refused to follow the treatment suggested by the doctors. Our medical staff had closely monitored the patient¡¦s condition and had repeatedly requested the patient to stay in hospital for treatment. The patient discharged himself against medical advice on 13 December, 2007.

Afterwards, the patient had repeatedly made disturbing phone calls to the clerical staffs of the Department of Medicine & Therapeutics and paged the doctors during the weekend and in the midnight unnecessarily. The case had already been reported to police for further action. Although the hospital has communicated several times with the patient and offered to arrange interview sessions between the patient and the doctors in charge, the patient had repeatedly refused.
