The Food and Environmental Hygiene Department announced today (January 9) that all services for the disposal of the dead would be suspended on Lunar New Year's Day (January 26).
A spokesman for the department said that on Lunar New Year's Day, no coffin would be accepted for burial at public cemeteries and no cremations would be undertaken at public crematoria. All cemeteries and crematoria offices will be closed.
"Cremation services and burial services will resume as normal on January 27," the spokesman said.
"During the Lunar New Year holidays from January 26 to 28, all permit offices and cremation booking offices will be closed.
"All services will resume as normal on January 29."
