Hospital Authority response on Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital missing body incident

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     The Hospital Authority (HA) Chairman, Mr Anthony Wu, and Chief Executive, Mr Shane Solomon, made the following statement regarding the announcement by Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital (PYNEH) today (6 January) on the missing of the body of a new born baby:

     The HA regrets about the incident and would like to express the deepest apology and condolences to the family of the baby.  Full support would be rendered to the family.

     PYNEH has been requested to submit a report as early as possible on whether the staff members concerned have violated the established guidelines and practice, and consideration of corresponding disciplinary actions.  The hospital is also required to propose improvement measures on existing systems and procedures.

     The Authority will fully cooperate with and assist the police in the investigation of the incident with a view to establishing the cause of the incident and recommending follow up measures.
