Countdown Carnival at Sha Tin

     Tens of thousands of people poured into Sha Tin tonight (December 31) to take part in the New Year's Eve Countdown Carnival.

     Presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, the carnival began at 8.30pm and runs until 12.30am tomorrow (New Year's Day) at Sha Tin Park, Sha Tin Town Hall Plaza cum City Art Square.

     A variety of music and dance performances including modern dance, jazz and hip hop by youth groups, Chinese acrobatics and traditional stage art show, standard and Latin American dance, a cappella, acrobatics, percussion as well as live band performances were showcased on the main stage.

     Roving artists performed tap dancing, modern dance and puppet show at City Art Square where 19 sculptures from around the world are on display. In addition, the Millennium Youth Orchestra performed music ensemble at the Square, bringing festive and seasonal joy to the public.

     Children have been having fun at the Playstation 3 TV games corner and interactive games playzone. Carnival-goers also made their New Year wishes at the Wish Corner.

     The carnival reaches its climax at midnight with the countdown ceremony complemented with pyrotechnics.
