Officers of Customs Drug Investigation Bureau today (December 24) seized 1.25 kilograms of ketamine with an estimated retail value of HK$160,000 in an anti-narcotics operation in Sheung Shui.
At around 10 a.m., Customs officers intercepted for inspection a 46-year-old man acting suspiciously in a shopping mall, Sheung Shui. As a result, Customs found 1.25 kilograms of ketamine on him.
The arrested man will be charged with trafficking in a dangerous drug under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance. He will appear at Kwun Tong Magistrates¡¦ Court on 26 December 2008.
It is believed that the seized drugs were intended for sale during Christmas and New Year Holidays in the New Territories.
Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, drug trafficking is a serious offence. The maximum penalty is up to life imprisonment and a fine of $5 million.
