Piano recital by Yim Wan

     Young pianist Yim Wan will give a piano recital next month (January) playing masterpieces by Scarlatti, Mozart and Schumann to demonstrate her artistry.

     Elegant piano pieces to be performed by Yim at the concert will include Gluck ¡V Sgambati's "Melody" (from "Orfeo ed Euridice"), Scarlatti's "Sonata in D, K.298", "Sonata in A, K.101", "Sonata in B-flat, K.545", Mozart's "Fantasia in D Minor, K.397", "Sonata in D, K. 284", Schumann ¡V Liszt's "Widmung" (Dedication) and Schumann's "Carnaval, Op.9".

     Yim Wan has been praised by renowned pianists Fou Ts'ong and Paul Badura-Skoda. She studied music at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts and obtained her bachelor's and master's degrees at Conservatory of Music at Oberlin College and the Juilliard School in New York respectively. She was the recipient of John Elvin and William R. Abate Memorial Prizes, and the champion of concerto competition when studying in Oberlin. She gave her New York debut at the Lincoln Center and has frequently performed with Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra and the Hong Kong Sinfonietta. As an avid chamber musician, Yim has collaborated with outstanding musicians including violinists Lu Siqing, Qian Zhou and cellist Trey Lee. She presents a number of masterclasses and lectures in Hong Kong and the Mainland. She currently teaches at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts and the Chinese University of Hong Kong.

     "Piano Recital by Yim Wan" is one of the attractions of "Our Music Talents' Series" which aims to provide a platform to local young musicians to show audiences their talent¡@and passion.

     Presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, the concert will be staged at 8pm on January 22, 2009 (Thursday) at the Theatre, Hong Kong City Hall. Tickets priced at $100 and $150 are now available at URBTIX outlets. Senior citizens aged 60 or above, people with disabilities, full-time students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance recipients are entitled to 50% off (limited quotas for full-time students and CSSA recipients on a first-come, first-served basis).
