The Census and Statistics Department (C&SD) published today (December 22) the December 2008 issue of the Hong Kong Monthly Digest of Statistics (HKMDS).
In this issue, two feature articles entitled ˇ§Hong Kong's Trade Involving Outward Processing in the Mainland of China, 1997 to 2007ˇ¨ and ˇ§An Analysis of Human Resources with Post-secondary Education or Working as Professionals/Associate Professionalsˇ¨ are included.
"Hong Kong's Trade Involving Outward Processing in the Mainland of China, 1997 to 2007"
Outward processing activities play an important role in Hong Kong's trade with the mainland of China (the Mainland). According to the findings of the Survey on Trade Involving Outward Processing in the Mainland of China conducted by C&SD, the proportions of Hong Kong's trade with the Mainland involving outward processing activities remained high in 2007, ranging from 34% in re-exports to the Mainland to 78% in re-exports of the Mainland origin to other places.
Feature articles addressing this subject have been published in this Digest regularly since 1995. This feature article describes Hong Kongˇ¦s trade involving outward processing in the Mainland during the period from 1997 to 2007.

"An Analysis of Human Resources with Post-secondary Education or Working as Professionals/Associate Professionals"
Human resources development has long been seen as one of the thrusts for enhancing competitiveness and bringing about economic growth of an economy. Statistics on human resources are useful information to throw light on the supply of human resources available for sustainable development. In this feature article, two groups of persons in human resources are specifically analysed, viz. persons with post-secondary education or persons working as professionals/associate professionals. Growth in the number of these persons is considered essential for an economy to spearhead towards a knowledge-based economy.
