Employer ordered to pay MPF non-payment

The following is issued on behalf of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority:

     The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (December 16) pursued one claim in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $5,000 on behalf of one employee, who was owed MPF contributions by his employer.

     At the tribunal's hearing today, the defendant, Realtors International Investment Limited, did not appear. In its absence, the Adjudicator ordered it to pay the MPFA the sum of $5,317.75, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The amount awarded at the tribunal will be reimbursed to the employee's MPF accounts as soon as it is received by the MPFA. The tribunal also ordered the defendant to pay $115 as the costs in respect of the claim.
