2009 "Our Beautiful Country" calendar available free from December 17 (with photo)

The following is issued on behalf of the Committee on the Promotion of Civic Education and the Commission on Youth:

     The 2009 "Our Beautiful Country" desk calendar, co-produced by the Committee on the Promotion of Civic Education (CPCE) and the Commission on Youth (COY), will be distributed to the public free of charge on a first come, first served basis from Wednesday (December 17).

     Distribution points include the Home Affairs Department's Public Enquiry Service Centres, public libraries, city halls and town halls, the Hong Kong Cultural Centre, the Hong Kong Museum of History, and the Civic Education and Youth Resource Centre on 2/F, Tung Sun Commercial Centre, 194-200 Lockhart Road, Wan Chai.

     The 2009 calendar carries the theme of "Our Beautiful Country". Apart from showing the natural beauty and urban infrastructure of our country, the calendar aims to display national unity by showing the distinctive ways of life and cultures of ethnic groups.

     An extended version of the calendar will also be uploaded onto the websites of the CPCE (www.cpce.gov.hk) and COY (www.coy.gov.hk).

     To publicise the calendar, the CPCE and COY will co-organise a sharing session at 7pm on December 30 at the Lecture Theatre, G/F, Hong Kong Central Library, Causeway Bay. COY member Mr Lo Ping, Senior Research Officer of the One Country Two Systems Research Institute Dr Fang Zhou, artistes Mr Andrew Yuen and Ms Paw Hee-ching will share with participants their feelings and knowledge about the natural beauty, culture and arts as well as the socioeconomic development of our country in recent years.

     Through the calendar, the CPCE and COY wish to foster among the public, in particular the younger generation, a strong sense of national identity and belonging to the motherland.
