Government welcomes views from taxi trade
*****************************************

In response to media enquiries about the request from individual taxi groups to meet the Commissioner for Transport to express their views on the New Territories taxi fare adjustment, a Transport Department (TD) spokesman said today (December 9) that a meeting was originally arranged by the TD this afternoon for these taxi groups to reflect their views.  However, the representative did not turn up at the meeting.

The spokesman said that the TD has been maintaining communications with the taxi trade through the established mechanism of taxi conferences to consult the trade on issues of concern to them.  Members of the taxi conferences include rentee-drivers, rentor-owners and owner-drivers, representing the majority of taxi trade practitioners.  Even for those who are not members of the conference, the TD always welcomes feedback and suggestions from them.
