Seven employers ordered to pay MPF non-payments

The following is issued on behalf of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority:

     The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (December 9) pursued seven claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for about $110,000 on behalf of 48 employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.

     Business & Industrial Trade Fairs Limited, did not dispute the amount claimed and it was ordered to pay the MPFA $19,586.87, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The other six defendants, Golden Crown Optical Limited, Clover Manufacturers Asia Limited, Chan Har Chuen trading as Salami Restaurant and Kwan Yuk Yun formerly trading as Salami Restaurant, Alliance Services Company Limited, Keen Billion Limited trading as Kam Heung Seafood Restaurant and Au Yeung Fu On Hercules trading as Ace Realtors, did not appear. In their absence, the Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA $37,674.02, $24,581.54, $14,882.39, $9,795.82, $2,747.54 and $840, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The amounts awarded will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The tribunal further ordered the respective defendants to pay costs of $129, $186, $142, $150, $298, $166 and $140.

     Business & Industrial Trade Fairs Limited previously pleaded guilty to seven counts of failing to make MPF contributions on time and was fined $20,000.
