Pan Asia Symphony Orchestra to perform Oscar-winning classics

     Pan Asia Symphony Orchestra will present three "SoundĄDTracks and Golden Classics" concerts next month (January), featuring national class one conductor Fan Tao as guest conductor and 15-year-old Joyce Chen as violin soloist.

     Under the baton of Fan Tao, the orchestra will perform Oscar-winning classics accompanied by clips from films, including "E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial", "Dances with Wolves", "Star Wars" and "Jane Eyre". The concert will also feature fabulous classical masterpieces, such as excerpts from Pyotr Ilyich Tschaikovsky's "Swan Lake", Johann Strauss II's "Hunting Polka" and excerpts from Georges Bizet's "Carmen Suite".

     Fan Tao, a national first class conductor in China, studied under the famous conductor and pedagogue Huang Xiaotong and Philip Spurgeon. Fan has participated in a master class with Esa-Pekka Salonen and performed with renowned international orchestras. He has been the resident conductor of the National Radio and Film Symphony Orchestra since 1995.

     Soloist Joyce Chen studied violin under the tutelage of Li Wing-shun, Professor Zheng Shisheng of the Shanghai Conservatory of Music and Professor Lin Yaoji of the Central Conservatory of Music, Beijing. Chen won the "Blossom Award" in the Sixth National Violin Competition for Youth and Children in China and first prize in the Under 18 violin concerto competition in the Hong Kong School Music Festivals in 2007.

     Presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, "SoundĄDTracks and Golden Classics" concerts will be staged at 3pm on January 1 (Thursday), at the Auditorium, Tuen Mun Town Hall; 8pm on January 2 (Friday) at the Auditorium, Yuen Long Theatre, and 3pm on January 4 (Sunday), at the Auditorium, Tsuen Wan Town Hall. Tickets priced at $60, $80 and $100 are now available at URBTIX outlets. Senior citizens aged 60 or above, people with disabilities, full-time students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance recipients are entitled to 50% off (limited quotas for CSSA recipients on a first-come, first-served basis).
