Fight Crime Committee (FCC) member and 2008 Fight Crime Conference Chairperson, Ms Sylvia Yau, today (December 6) appealed to the public to make Hong Kong a safe and harmonious home by joining hands with the Government to fight and prevent crime.
The conference was a biennial event organised by the FCC. It provides a forum for members of the FCC and the District FCCs to exchange views. The theme of this yearˇ¦s conference was "United in the Fight Against Crime".
The Chief Executive, Mr Donald Tsang, delivered an opening address at the conference. The Chief Secretary for Administration and Chairman of the FCC, Mr Henry Tang, gave a keynote speech at the same occasion.
To herald this year's fight crime conference, five group discussions were organised for members of the 18 District FCCs to deliberate on various law and order issues, including youth crime and youth drug abuse, commercial crime and fraud, burglary and home security, domestic violence and "quick cash" crimes. The five groups presented the outcome of their discussions at the conference. In addition, nearly 400 FCC and DFCC members attending the conference exchanged views with representatives of relevant policy bureaux and departments on the law and order situation and ways to fight crime at the plenary session.
Other officials attending the conference were the Secretary for Justice, Mr Wong Yan Lung, SC; Secretary for Security, Mr Ambrose S K Lee; Secretary for Labour and Welfare, Mr Matthew Cheung; Commissioner of Police, Mr Tang King-shing; Commissioner of Correctional Services, Mr Kwok Leung-ming; Director of Home Affairs, Mrs Pamela Tan, Assistant Director of Home Affairs, Miss Linda So; and Principal Assistant Secretary for Education, Mrs Michelle Wong.
