The Home Affairs Bureau has congratulated young twin pianists Chau Lok-ping and Chau Lok-ting on winning first prize and three special prizes at the Fourth International Piano Duo Competition.
The top laureates, who are the youngest among all contestants, beat more than 40 competitors from around the world. The awards do not only bring distinctive credit to the winners themselves but also represent a breakthrough for Hong Kong as the first award won by pianists from Hong Kong in an international piano duo competition.
The International Piano Duo Competition, founded in 1999, is held in high regard internationally. It has attracted adjudicators and competitors of world-class calibre from all over the world. The competition is held every three years and took place from November 24-29 this year in Bialystok, Poland. It was open to contestants worldwide whose common combined age was below 70.
The twin sisters are currently second-year undergraduate students of the School of Music majoring in piano at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts.
