Ten Immigration Department officers have been awarded the Director's Commendation for their outstanding performances. Another four officers have been awarded the Assistant Directors' commendation. The presentation ceremony was held at the department's headquarters today (December 1).
Among the 10 officers awarded the Director's Commendation, Acting Senior Principal Immigration Officer (Airport) Mr Danny Chan Leung-yuk was commended for outstanding leadership in planning and executing large-scale operations to facilitate the VIPs, athletes and teams of the Equestrian Events while also interdicting suspect passengers, thereby maintaining effective immigration control and minimising security risks to Hong Kong. Chief Immigration Officer ((Airport) Field Operation) Mr Chan Man-ho's outstanding leadership and exemplary supervision during the operations and Senior Immigration Officer (Airport) Mr Freddy Ng Siu-ming's organisational ability and excellent liaison with other stakeholders in the airport community during the operations were also commended by the Director.
Chief Immigration Officer (Employment and Visit Visas) Mr Chow Wing-hei and Acting Senior Immigration Officer (Employment and Visit Visas) Ms Catelly Lee Yeuk-yang were commended for their contributions to the pre-clearance of applications for Olympic and Paralympic identity and accreditation cards of the 2008 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Mr Chow displayed outstanding leadership and organisational skills during the enormous and demanding record-checking exercise. The outstanding zeal and professionalism Ms Lee displayed in planning and implementing the project contributed to the smooth and successful completion of the exercise.
Acting Senior Immigration Officer Mr Wilson Au-yeung Chi-wai and Chief Immigration Assistant Mr Li Ming-tak of the General Investigation Section and Acting Senior Immigration Assistant Miss Yeung Hiu-chi of Sha Tau Kok Section were commended for their contributions in the investigation of a pioneer false contract case under the general employment policy, leading to the successful conviction of the main culprit. Mr Au-yeung displayed outstanding leadership and strategic planning during the investigation. Mr Li's excellent field investigation technique and Miss Yeung's outstanding organisation of work and proficiency in the handling of exhibits also contributed to the successful conviction of the main culprit.
Also awarded the Director's Commendation were Immigration Officer Mr Eric Lam Yee-wing and Chief Immigration Assistant Mr James Lee Sai-chiu, both from the Anti-Illegal Migration Agency. Mr Lam's professionalism and dedication to investigative duties exhibited in his inquiry into a case of conspiracy to obtain services by deception and illegal transfer of HKSAR passports led to the successful crackdown on a human smuggling operation. The vigilance and judgment Mr Lee displayed in the case also contributed to the conviction of five immigration offenders with heavy sentences.
Director of Immigration Mr Simon Peh Yun-lu congratulated award recipients and praised them for their exemplary performances. Mr Peh said he believed that officers would continue to demonstrate their esprit de corps in confronting the challenges ahead and striving for continued improvement in services provided to the public.
