Tenders invited for preliminary design of Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao main bridge

     The Governments of the Hong Kong SAR, Guangdong and Macao SAR are going full steam ahead in implementing the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge (HZMB) project.  The HZMB Advance Work Co-ordination Group (AWCG)endorsed the feasibility study report of the HZMB project at its ninth meeting on  November 27, 2008.  The report will be submitted by Guangdong Province by the end of this year for the consideration of the Central Peopleˇ¦s Government.  As agreed by the three governments, the AWCG project office on the Mainland started inviting tenders today (December 1) for the preliminary design and site investigation for the HZMB main bridge.   

     The HZMB main bridge will be a 29.6km dual three-lane carriageway in the form of a bridge-cum-tunnel structure comprising an immersed tunnel of about 6.7km.  It will run within Mainland waters from the artificial island off Gongbei, Zhuhai, to the eastern artificial island for the tunnel section just west of the HKSAR boundary.

     The preliminary design of the main bridge is expected to begin in April 2009.
