The Fight Crime Committee Report No. 27, which gives a detailed account of the committee¡¦s work in 2007, was released today (November 28).
During the year, the committee examined a variety of issues related to crime prevention, including the overall crime situation and the commercial crime situation, progress reports on the Police Superintendents¡¦ Discretion Scheme, the findings of the Crime Victimisation Survey conducted in 2006 and new measures to tackle the youth drug abuse problem.
The committee also held detailed discussions on its fight crime publicity campaign strategies, the Correctional Services Department¡¦s publicity activities on the reintegration of rehabilitated offenders and the proposed extension of an ¡§Outstanding Police Officer Award¡¨ scheme to all districts.
The report carries chapters on the work of the two sub-committees under the Fight Crime Committee ¡V the Standing Committee on Young Offenders and the Publicity Sub-Committee, as well as the work of the 18 District Fight Crime Committees.
Chaired by the Chief Secretary for Administration, the Fight Crime Committee comprises seven other senior government officials and eight non-official members. It is responsible for drawing up plans to reduce crime, co-ordinating efforts in fighting crime and monitoring the results, and finding ways to encourage the public to contribute to crime reduction.
The report is now available at all the District Offices of the Home Affairs Department. It has also been uploaded onto the Security Bureau's website at www.info.gov.hk/sb/
