Three employers ordered to pay MPF non-payments

The following is issued on behalf of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority:

     The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (November 26) pursued three claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for about $67,000 on behalf of seven employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.

     The defendants, Chan Fai Hung trading as Sun Wui Tung Shipping Co, Alliance (Far East) Holding Limited and Yip Sau Hing trading as Top-One Transportation Co, did not appear and in their absence, the Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA $35,785.86, $28,009.10 and $3,374.14, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The amounts awarded at the tribunal will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The tribunal ordered the defendants to pay respective costs of $170, $120 and $160.

     Alliance (Far East) Holding Limited previously pleaded guilty at Kwun Tong Magistracy to 28 counts of failing to make MPF contributions on time and was fined $40,400.
