Chinese stars to give poetry recitals in January
************************************************

Award-winning artists from the National Theatre of China will collaborate with renowned reciter Zhang Jiasheng, dubbed "one of the most famous voices in China", in two performances of "Listen to Love - Recitation of Poetry Classics" in January.

With live music accompaniment and elegant images on a well decorated stage, the performers will read or recite some of the best-known classics in poetry and prose, including Bing Xin's "Paper Boats", Walt Whitman's "O Captain! My Captain!", Yu Kwang-chung's "Nostalgia", Shu Ting's "Motherland, O My Dear Motherland", Xu Zhimo's "Goodbye Again, Cambridge" and Emily Bronte's "Remembrance".

The National Theatre of China is the state performing arts organisation founded in 2001 combining the former China National Youth Theatre and the China National Experimental Theatre. The theatre offers a platform where tradition meets modernity and state-of-the-art performances nurture theatrical masterpieces. It presents Chinese and foreign dramas and explores both classical and experimental forms of theatre. It has ventured into new forms and areas of the performing arts, endeavouring to offer an open stage where new theatrical talent and excellent productions will emerge.

Performing in the shows will be Tang Guoqiang, Kai Li, Qin Hailu, Wang Weiguo, Han Tongsheng, Zhuang Li, Chen Qiang, Zhou Ling, Zhang Jie and Shi Chunling. The star-studded performances, in Putonghua with Chinese subtitles and English programme information, will be at 7.30pm on January 10, 2009 (Saturday), and 3pm on January 11 (Sunday) at the Grand Theatre, Hong Kong Cultural Centre.

"Listen to Love - Recitation of Poetry Classics" is presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department.
