The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (November 25) obtained in the District Court two orders for payment of outstanding MPF contributions totalling about $300,000 against two employers. The MPFA also pursued one claim in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $12,000 on behalf of two employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employer.
The District Court today issued judgments against two employers, China Ascend Industrial Limited trading as Orient Seafood Restaurant and Keen Centre Limited. The defendants were ordered to pay the MPFA the sums of $249,043.91 and $56,881.01, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable to 49 and 29 employees of the defendants respectively.
At the tribunal's hearing today, the defendant, Luk Moon Chuen trading as Chuen Kee Chiu Chow Restaurant, did not dispute the amount claimed. The adjudicator ordered him to pay the MPFA the sum of $12,522.94, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.
The amounts awarded at the District Court and the tribunal will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The District Court also ordered the respective defendants to pay costs of $930 each. The tribunal ordered the defendant to pay $90 as costs in respect of the claim.
