The following is issued on behalf of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority:
The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (November 21) pursued four claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $130,000 on behalf of 12 employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.
At the tribunal's hearing today, two defendants, namely Cheung Chun Pun trading as Pun Kee Exploration Engineering and Common Development Limited, did not dispute the amounts claimed. The adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA the sums of $41,433.24 and $29,352.18, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.
The other two defendants, namely Conway Alarm & CCTV Control System Limited and Alliance (Far East) Holdings Limited, did not appear at today's hearing. In their absence, the adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA the sums of $35,310.82 and $24,039.02, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.
The amounts awarded will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The tribunal further ordered the respective defendants to pay $300, $180, $246 and $199 as the costs in respect of the claims.
Alliance (Far East) Holding Limited pleaded guilty previously at Kwun Tong Magistracy to 28 counts of failing to make MPF contributions on time and was fined $40,400.
