The Census and Statistics Department (C&SD) published A Graphic Guide on Hong Kong's Development (1967-2007) today (November 18) - a special publication which documents Hong Kong's social and economic developments over the past 40 years in clearly presented statistical charts.
"Over all these years, C&SD has been sparing no efforts to develop and open up new frontiers, with a view to providing adequate, relevant, reliable and timely statistics for reference by the Government and various sectors of the community in rising to the challenges and changes brought about by the future," said Mr Fung Hing-wang, Commissioner for Census and Statistics.
"Taking the opportunity of the momentous occasion of our 40th anniversary, we have prepared A Graphic Guide on Hong Kong's Development (1967-2007) which provides readers with a handy review of the different facets and changes of Hong Kong over the past 40 years from a statistical perspective," Mr Fung added.
The publication brings together some 140 charts presenting key social and economic statistics of Hong Kong in the past 40 years. The charts cover a wide range of subject areas, including population and vital events; labour; wages and earnings; national income and balance of payments; external trade; commerce and industry; public accounts, money and finance; transport, communications and tourism; consumer prices and household expenditure; housing and property; education; health; social welfare; public order and safety; and the environment.

Print version of the publication is available for sale at HK$66 per copy.
