The Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mrs Rita Lau, will leave Hong Kong on Sunday (November 16) to attend the 2008 APEC meetings in Lima, Peru. She will also visit Los Angeles, USA, and Vancouver, Canada.
In Los Angeles, USA, on November 17, Mrs Lau will deliver a keynote speech at a business luncheon co-hosted by the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in San Francisco, the Los Angeles World Affairs Council and the Hong Kong Association of Southern California, meet members of the Committee of 100 and pay a brief visit to The Walt Disney Company.
Mrs Lau will arrive in Lima, Peru, on November 18 to attend the 2008 APEC Annual Ministerial Meeting and participate in the APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting. During the stay she will hold bilateral meetings with some ministerial counterparts.
Mrs Lau will visit Vancouver, Canada, from November 23 to 25 where she will update the Vancouver community on Hong Kong's game plan to sustain its economic development, as well as the opportunities for Canadian business under the Closer Economic Partnership Arrangement (CEPA) between Hong Kong and the Mainland, at a seminar to be jointly organised by the Vancouver Board of Trade and the Hong Kong Canada Business Association. She will also meet the Mayor of Vancouver and students at the University of British Columbia, and visit an IT company and facilities relating to the development of tourism and creative industry in Vancouver.
Mrs Lau will return to Hong Kong on November 27.
