The Third Roadshow of Innovation Festival 08 (IF 08) will be held at Tin Shui Wai Park & Ginza Square this weekend (November 8 and 9). Members of the public, in particular the younger generation, are invited to join the various activities there and experience the fun of innovation, technology and design.
Organised by the Innovation and Technology Commission, the annual Innovation Festival aims to enhance public interest in innovation and technology and promote an innovative and technology culture. Themed "InnoVision Innovation InnoFuture", IF 08 comprises an InnoCarnival and four roadshows. The InnoCarnival, held at Hong Kong Science Park in mid October, met with an overwhelming response from the public. The three-day event drew an attendance of more than 32,000.
"This is the first time we have a roadshow at Tin Shui Wai. It is hoped that the roadshow programmes will help open up the eyes and minds of the youngsters in Tin Shui Wai," a spokesman for the Innovation and Technology Commission said.
At the roadshow this weekend, there will be four T-shirt design classes each day, providing an opportunity for youngsters to showcase their design talent under the guidance of teachers from design schools. Thirteen workshops on a variety of topics including 3D Max, robots, toy cars and electronic maze will be held each day to challenge children's creativity and technological literacy.
In addition, winning entries of the Hong Kong Student Science Project Competition and Hong Kong Youth 3D Animation Competition will be on display. The 1,000 solar energy cars designed and made by 1,000 students for the InnoCarnival will be distributed as gifts to children from Tin Shui Wai during the roadshow.
The last roadshow of IF 08 will be held from November 14 to 16, Friday to Sunday, at Victoria Park, Causeway Bay.
The Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups is the festival partner of IF08. More than 40 organisations joined as programme partners, including universities, the Education Bureau, professional bodies, technology companies and a number of youth bodies involved in innovation and robotic activities.
