Government response to media enquiries
**************************************

In response to media enquiries on the remarks made by Premier Wen Jiabao today (October 29), a government spokesman said:

"We welcome and appreciate Premier Wen Jiabao's remarks that the Central People's Government would give full support to and have every confidence in Hong Kong.

We agree with Premier Wen that we have to fully assess the difficulties, make full preparations, closely monitor the development of the financial crisis and promptly adjust our policies. The SAR Government has recently set up the Task Force on Economic Challenges to monitor and assess the impact of the financial tsunami on Hong Kong economy. The Task Force will come up with specific options for the Government and relevant industries to consider. This will help us weather the storm and turn crises into opportunities.

We welcome the measures suggested by Premier Wen that are beneficial to Hong Kong. We will work closely with the Central Government to ensure that the measures will be smoothly implemented.

Every time we go through a financial crisis, Hong Kong will learn from experiences and further strengthen our financial and economic systems. We believe that it will be the same this time."
