LegCo Building Open Day
***********************

The following is issued on behalf of the Legislative Council Secretariat:

The Legislative Council will hold an Open Day of the Legislative Council Building on November 29, 2008 (Saturday) from 9.30am to around 5.30pm.

The purpose of organising the event is to enable members of the public to understand more about the work of the Legislative Council and pay a visit to the 96-year-old historical Legislative Council Building.

President of the Legislative Council, Hon Jasper Tsang Yok-sing; Chairman of the House Committee, Hon Miriam Lau Kin-yee; and Deputy Chairman of the House Committee, Hon Fred Li Wah-ming, will officiate at an opening ceremony at 9.30am on that day outside the Building (facing the Statue Square) to mark the start of the event.

To make the event more interesting and meaningful for visitors, some new initiatives will be introduced this year to promote the corporate image of the Legislative Council and to enhance civic education, including a photo corner outside the Legislative Council Building for individual Members to meet the public and take photos with them, and an exhibition booth with interactive computer games and flash presentation on the work of the Legislative Council. The new and enhanced civic education website will also be launched on the Open Day.

Members of the public are welcome to come to visit the Legislative Council Building on the Open Day. They will be able to tour the Chamber and the Ante-Chamber, the President's Office and the Secretary General's Office (for viewing only), Conference Room A, B and C, the Press Conference Room, the Press Room, the Dining Hall, and the Members' Rooms.

Admission is free and no ticket is required for the event. Those interested in visiting the Legislative Council Building are requested to assemble outside Public Entrance II of the Building (facing the Statue Square) at any time from 10am to 5.30pm on that day to wait for admission, and they will be admitted in guided groups at regular intervals. Guided tours will be led by staff of the Legislative Council Secretariat.

Members of the Legislative Council and Secretariat staff will station at designated venues inside the Building to receive visitors and introduce to them the facilities of the venues or explain how legislators perform their work in these venues.

For the purposes of crowd control and smooth flow of traffic, the touring route will be one-way only and members of the public will enter at Public Entrance II and exit at Public Entrance I of the Legislative Council Building. At the start of the tour, visitors will be given a booklet introducing the work of the Legislative Council and a pamphlet on the new civic education website. They will receive a souvenir before leaving the Building.
