SLW congratulates newly elected LAB employee members
****************************************************

The Secretary for Labour and Welfare, Mr Matthew Cheung Kin-chung, today (October 25) congratulated the five employee representatives who were elected to the Labour Advisory Board (LAB) for a two-year term commencing next January.

Mr Cheung said, "Tripartite consultation involving employers, employees and the Government is an effective and vitally important means of promoting partnership and facilitating direct dialogue among the three parties on issues of common concern.

"The LAB best illustrates the success of this tripartite partnership which serves Hong Kong well since its establishment more than 60 years ago."

Mr Cheung hoped that the new LAB would continue to work closely with the Administration in promoting labour relations, safeguarding the interests of both the employers and employees and enhancing occupational safety and health.

He also thanked out-going member, the Honourable Ip Wai-ming, for his valuable advice on various labour issues in the past years, including proposals on minimum wage and measures to improve enforcement of Labour Tribunal Awards.
