The following is issued on behalf of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority:
The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (October 24) pursued seven claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for about $90,000 on behalf of 22 employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.
CMDA Limited, did not dispute the amount claimed and the Adjudicator ordered it to pay the MPFA $26,974.46, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.
The other six defendants, Kitchen Workshop Limited trading as Hong Kong Kitchen Co, Leung Ping Kuen trading as Kong Hing Food Co, Wai Kee (Lee's) Engineering Company Limited, Club Hime Limited, Lam Pui Chun trading as Silver Lake Restaurant and Tang Wing Lui Winnie formerly trading as Infinite Music and Art Centre did not appear at today's hearing. In their absence, the Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA $29,872.82, $16,694, $7,875.16, $4,214.82, $3,187.50 and $1,189.43, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.
The amounts awarded will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The tribunal further ordered the respective defendants to pay costs of $180, $206, $160, $160, $166, $160 and $200.
