Employees are urged to report non-compliance by next Friday to avoid affecting their eligibility to receive the Government's injection
************************************************************

The following is issued on behalf of the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority:

The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (October 23) reminds employees who were employed at any time between March 1, 2007 and February 29, 2008, but their employers did not enroll them in an MPF scheme or an ORSO scheme (MPF exempted ORSO registered scheme), or failed to make contributions, to enquire of their employers or report to the MPFA on or before next Friday, October 31. This will facilitate the MPFA to check out the employees' relevant income during the period concerned and determine their eligibility to receive the injection. All information received will be kept in strict confidence.

An MPFA spokesperson said that the MPFA would continue to combat defaulting employers. The Legislative Council has passed the legislative amendment to the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Ordinance (MPFSO) on increasing the maximum penalties against employers who have failed to enroll their employees in an MPF scheme or defaulted contributions, in order to raise the deterrent effect so that employees¡¦ interest can be better protected.

Apart from enquiring of the trustees about the enrollment and contribution status, employees can also check the monthly contribution records provided by their employers. Casual employees enrolled in Industry Schemes can check the monthly contribution records provided by their trustees.

The MPFA is responsible for implementing the Government's injection of HK$6,000 into the accounts of eligible members of MPF and ORSO schemes.

For more details on the injection project, including the eligibility criteria and necessary actions by scheme members to complement the implementation of the injection, please visit the MPFA website at www.mpfa.org.hk or enquire of respective trustees.
