Following is the statement by the Chief Secretary for Administration, Mr Henry Tang, today (October 23) on his appointment as the Chairman of the Board of the West Kowloon Cultural District Authority by the Chief Executive:
I am deeply honoured to be appointed as Chairman of the Board of the West Kowloon Cultural District (WKCD) Authority by the Chief Executive.
The WKCD is a major initiative to consolidate Hong Kong's status as an international metropolitan city, build a pluralistic and inclusive society, and enrich our fellow citizen's spiritual lives. It is a strategic investment to develop Hong Kong's cultural and creative industries in the new economic landscape. Over the last year, I have been personally engaged in the preparatory work of the WKCD project. I have felt the community's expectations about this exciting project and their wish to see its early implementation. I fully understand the immense challenges and responsibility attached to the chairmanship.
The members of the board are all outstanding personalities from the arts, cultural and relevant fields. I look forward to working closely with them with dedication and open-mindedness. We will start work soon to lay down a solid foundation for the WKCD.
