Public invited to vote in 2008 Meritorious Website Contest
**********************************************************

Members of the public are invited to vote online for their favourite healthy websites at www.merit.gov.hk from now until December 24, 2008.

Jointly organised by the Television and Entertainment Licensing Authority (TELA), the Education Bureau, the Committee on Home-School Co-operation, the Hong Kong Internet Service Providers Association and  Radio Television Hong Kong, the purposes of the 2008 Meritorious Website Contest are to encourage young people to visit more websites which are healthy and free of objectionable materials, and to recognise the contributions of healthy website producers.

The theme of this year's contest is "Surf smartly and spend our time wisely. Say no to objectionable materials and browse healthy websites."  The websites will be judged according to usefulness of information; contribution to development of knowledge and mental capacity; clarity and attractiveness of expression; orderliness of organisation; aptness of content; reliability; and accessibility for disabled persons.

Nominations were invited earlier this year, and a shortlist of 41 websites covering news, learning resources, specific knowledge and interests has been prepared for public voting.

Members of the public may visit www.merit.gov.hk for the shortlist of websites and the details of the contest.
