A man who had been operating a clubhouse with a Certificate of Compliance (CoC) in Tsim Sha Tsui was today (October 15) fined $8,000 for contravening the Clubs (Safety of Premises) Ordinance.
The Kowloon City Magistrates' Court heard that a club in Nathan Road, Tsim Sha Tsui had been operating with a CoC under the Clubs (Safety of Premises) Ordinance. An inspection on the club was conducted by the Office of the Licensing Authority (OLA) of Home Affairs Department in April.
During the investigation, officers of OLA, posing as customers, patronised the club for food without being asked to show membership status or being invited to join the club as members. The membership register could not be presented upon request by inspectors. The man, holder of the CoC, was found to be in contravention of the Special Condition no. 1 and 2 of the CoC, and he was subsequently charged with contravening section 21(2) of the ordinance.
A spokesman for the department said enforcement action would continue to be taken against illegal club operations.
