The Chief Executive, Mr Donald Tsang, announced today (October 14) his acceptance of the resignation of Mr Jasper Tsang Yok-sing from the Executive Council (ExCo) and the appointment of Mr Lau Kong-wah to ExCo, with effect from October 15.

On the departure of Mr Jasper Tsang, the Chief Executive thanked him for his dedicated service and wise counsel since July 2002.  Other than the intellectual rigour and solid analysis that Mr Jasper Tsang brought to the Executive Council, the Chief Executive expressed his gratitude to Mr Tsang for having articulated with objectivity and eloquence feedback from his electorate and fellow Members of the Legislative Council.

The Chief Executive also praised Mr Jasper Tsang for having "demonstrated to the full what steadfast loyalty and integrity mean". He extended his best wishes to Mr Tsang for his endeavours as the President of the Legislative Council and other community services.

The Chief Executive said, "Mr Lau has rich experience in the Legislative Council as well as in district work.  His acceptance of the appointment shows his firm commitment to serving the community of Hong Kong.  I am confident that he will offer invaluable advice to ExCo and contribute to facilitating communication between the Executive Authorities and the Legislature."
