Secretary for Home Affairs visits Hongkong Post in support of Free Post Day (with photos)
***********************************************************

The Secretary for Home Affairs, Mr Tsang Tak-sing, visited the General Post Office today (October 9) in support of the Free Post Day organised by Hongkong Post. During his visit, Mr Tsang posted a free personal letter. He then toured the mail sorting centre of the General Post Office with Postmaster General Mr Tam Wing-pong and other members of the Hongkong Post management team.

This is the fifth time Hong Kong's postal service has invited people to express feelings of love and care by means of a personal letter, free of postage, to someone in Hong Kong, to celebrate World Post Day and at the same time promote the unique means of communication of letter writing.

A group of students who posted their letters together with the Secretary for Home Affairs said that they shared their feelings with their friends about the Chinese astronauts who recently completed the historic walk in space.

World Post Day is celebrated each year on October 9, the anniversary of the establishment of the Universal Postal Union (UPU) in 1874 in the Swiss Capital, Bern. It was declared World Post Day by the UPU Congress in Tokyo, Japan, in 1969. Many countries around the world participate annually in the celebration.
