Operation against easy-mount frames in Wan Chai
***********************************************

The Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD) today (October 6) mounted an operation in Wan Chai against commercial promotional articles such as easy-mount frames, A-shape boards, placards and the like on streets.

"In order to prevent articles such as easy-mount frames on streets obstructing the public and street cleansing work, the FEHD applies Section 104A and Section 133 of the Public Health and Municipal Services Ordinance to take enforcement actions against these articles.  These included seizure of concerned promotional articles and easy-mount frames as exhibits.  The department would take out prosecution if there is sufficient evidence," an FEHD's spokesman said.

"A total of 72 unattended easy-mount frames, A-shape boards and placards were seized in the operation today.  In addition, a total of 12 "notices to remove obstruction" were issued, demanding the concerned owners to remove the articles.  Two promoters were prosecuted for causing obstruction in public place.

"Wan Chai has been chosen to pilot such operation. It will be extended to other districts if proved effective."

The spokesman appealed to the public not to place easy-mount frames, A-shape boards, placards and the like on streets.  Breaching the law may lead to prosecution. Upon conviction, the maximum penalty is a fine of $10,000 and a daily fine of $300.
