12 nominations for Labour Advisory Board election

     The Labour Department has received 12 valid nominations of candidates from registered employee unions for the election of employee representatives to the Labour Advisory Board on October 25 (Saturday) at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre. Five will be elected to the board for a two-year term starting next January.

     The list of candidates, arranged in the order of the nominations received, are:

* Leung Chau-ting

* Lee Tak-ming
  General Secretary,
  Hong Kong and Kowloon Trades Union Council

* Chung Kwok-sing
  Chairman,
  Hong Kong Civil Servants General Union

  Deputy Director,
  Rights and Benefits Committee of the Hong Kong
  Federation of Trade Unions

* Chan Chit-kwai
  President,
  University of Hong Kong Staff Association

* Palungwa Dil Bahadur
  Chairman,
  Gurkhas Security Guards Union Hong Kong

* Rai Nityanand
  Vice Chairman,
  Gurkhas Security Guards Union Hong Kong

* Limbu Buddi Man
  Executive Committee Member,
  Gurkhas Security Guards Union Hong Kong

* Ng Wai-yee
  Supervisor of Labour Rights,
  Federation of Hong Kong and Kowloon Labour Unions

     Meanwhile, 391 employee unions registered with the department as electors have appointed authorised representatives to vote on election day.

     "The authorised representatives should arrive at the polling station for registration and voting between 11am and 4pm. They must produce their identity documents for inspection by the polling staff," a department spokesman said.

     A representative of the Registry of Trade Unions and the candidates will be present on election day to supervise the counting of votes. Assistant Commissioner for Labour  Mr Alan Wong Kwok-lun will be the Returning Officer.

     The Labour Advisory Board is a tripartite consultative body which advises the Commissioner for Labour on matters affecting labour. The Commissioner for Labour is the ex-officio chairman.
