A Transport Department spokesman today (October 2) reminded people that as large numbers of grave sweepers were expected to go to cemeteries in Tseung Kwan O, Wo Hop Shek and Sandy Ridge around Chung Yeung Festival, special traffic and transport arrangements would be implemented in roads in the vicinity of these areas.

Tseung Kwan O Chinese Permanent Cemetery

Road closures for the coming Chung Yeung Festival will be similar to those for last year. Apart from emergency vehicles, the access road leading to the cemetery will be closed to all vehicular traffic from 5.30am to 8pm on October 7 (the day of Chung Yeung Festival).

General road closure will be implemented from 5.30am to 6pm on October 4, 5, 11, 12, 18 and 19. All vehicles are prohibited from using the access road leading to the cemetery except KMB special bus route No. 14S, emergency vehicles, hearses, vehicles in funeral processions and with valid entry permits issued by the cemetery. KMB's special bus route No. 14S, running between Lei Yue Mun Road, Yau Tong and the cemetery, will provide service between 7am and 5.25pm on the dates when general road closure are implemented.

Wo Hop Shek, Fanling
--------------------

Kiu Tau Road (except hearses), Ming Ying Road (except franchised buses), Wo Ka Lau Road and all access roads within Wo Hop Shek Cemetery will be closed to all vehicles, except emergency vehicles, from 6am to 5pm on October 5, 7, 11 and 12. The flyover between Kau Lung Hang Village and Tai Wo Service Road West will only be open to taxis, coaches, school buses, green minibuses, private cars, goods vehicles and motorcycles.

On October 5, 7, 11 and 12, special traffic management measures and restrictions on stopping, loading and unloading will be implemented at some road sections in the area. Drivers should pay attention to instructions of on-site road signs and the police.

On October 7 (the day of Chung Yeung Festival), KMB route No. 76S will operate between Fanling Station and Wo Hop Shek; KMB route No. 70S (Wui Cheung Road, Jordan - Wo Hop Shek) and No. 74S (Lam Tin Station - Wo Hop Shek) will also provide services via Tolo Highway.

Sandy Ridge, Frontier Closed Area
---------------------------------

Except those with Frontier Closed Road Permits, all vehicles will be prohibited from accessing Sandy Ridge every day between 6am and 6pm from today to October 19 inclusive. Grave sweepers going to Sandy Ridge can take KMB route No. 73K, green minibus route no. 59K in Sheung Shui or the MTR East Rail Line to Lo Wu. KMB route No. 73K service will be strengthened on October 5 and 7 if necessary.

The spokesman called on people to make full use of public transport, avoid going to the cemeteries on busy days and follow the instructions of on-site road signs, the police or other personnel on duty around the cemeteries.
