     Hong Kong was spared of major damage during the passage of Typhoon Hagupit today (September 24).  As the storm is moving further away from the territory, the No. 8 Southeast Gale or Storm Signal was replaced by Strong Wind Signal No. 3 at 6.30am.

     Public transport companies are beginning to resume normal service.

     Up to 6.30am, 56 flights have been cancelled, 92 flights delayed and three diverted.

     As at 6am, 16 floodings were recorded at various locations throughout the territory while no landslip has been reported. Seven reports of collapsed scaffoldings were received by the Buildings Department.

     Up to 6.30am, the Leisure and Cultural Services Department and Highways Department have received 46 reports of fallen trees.

     As at 6am, a total of 58 people, 31 males and 27 females, aged between 6 and 89, have sought medical treatment at the Accident and Emergency Departments at public hospitals. Among the patients, 45 people have been treated and discharged. A total of 13 people were still under treatment in hospitals.  Three patients staying at hospitals were serious while ten were stable.

     Home Affairs Department has opened 28 temporary shelters and up to 5.30am, 426 people have sought refuge at the shelters.

     The Education Bureau announced classes of all AM schools and whole-day schools are suspended today.

     The Social Welfare Department advised people not to take their children or family members to child care centres, elderly services centres and day rehabilitation units, including sheltered workshops and day activity centres. These centres will remain open to serve those whose families cannot provide alternative care for them.

     The Judiciary announced that all courts, tribunals, court registries and offices will be closed this morning.
