Kwai Kee was fined $16,000 at Eastern Magistrates' Court today (September 22) for violation of Construction Sites (Safety) Regulations. The prosecution was launched by the Labour Department.
The case involved a fatal accident that occurred on February 22 at a construction site in Causeway Bay. A worker fell to his death from an unfenced roof edge of a building. He fell a distance of three metres to the ground.
According to 38B(1) of the Construction Sites (Safety) Regulations, a contractor shall take adequate steps to prevent a person on the site from falling from a height of two metres or more. Any contractor who fails to do so is liable to a fine of $200,000 and imprisonment for 12 months.
